Obstructions of highways and footpaths

Illegally parked vehicles damage paving and grass verges and cost the Borough of Poole thousands of pounds each year in repairs.

Cars parked on pavements are a hazard to pedestrians, wheelchairs users, those with pushchairs, old people and people with visual impairments.  They cause a complete or partial obstruction causing pavement users to use the road to pass-by putting themselves in danger.

Dealing with illegally parked vehicles

Civil Enforcement Officers are responsible for enforcing obstructions on the highway and footpaths where waiting restrictions apply, such as yellow lines.  They can issue Penalty Charge Notices. (If you need to pay for a parking ticket you can use our on-line payments facility.)

Dorset Police link will open in new window are responsible for enforcing obstructions of the highway and footpaths where no other parking restrictions are in force.

Reporting Problems

Our Civic Enforcement Officers do regular patrols  but you can also help us by reporting ilegally parked vehicles.  Waiting restrictions cover the highway from the centre of the highway to the building line.

Please use our on-line report it form if you come across any of the following problems:

  • A skip or scaffolding obstructing the pavement
  • No barrier around streetworks/roadworks and the building work is affecting pedestrian safety
  • Building materials blocking the pavement
  • An advertising board blocking the pavement
  • Banners or buntings causing an obstruction
