Local Development Framework - Minerals Core Strategy Issues and Options Report

Purpose

The first Development Plan Document to be prepared as part of the Minerals and Waste Development Framework is the Minerals Core Strategy (MCS). Its publication for consultation follows a period of initial evidence gathering and three stakeholder workshops, during which the key issues to be dealt with through the MCS were identified and debated.

Preliminary consultation on the MCS Issues and Options Report was undertaken between April and July 2007, and sought views and opinions from stakeholders on the emerging spatial visions and objectives.

The publication of the MCS Issues and Options Report provides an opportunity for stakeholders to participate in the development of the MCS for Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole.

The document, once adopted, will set out the aims, objectives and spatial strategy for minerals development in the plan area. The MCS, although not intended to be site specific, may in some cases establish broad locations and general principles where future sites for minerals extraction will be preferred. The document will also contain key development control policies against which planning applications for minerals extraction will be considered.

The MCS Issues and Options Report has been subjected to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA). SA is a systematic and evaluative process which aims to determine how each option identified in the MCS Issues and Options Report performs in a social, environmental and economic context, against 15 sustainability objectives developed through the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report.

The consultation period will run from the 23rd November 2007 till the 18th January 2008. Responses to the MCS Issues and Options Report can be made using the following methods:-
