Local Development Framework - Town Centre North Issues and Options

Purpose

The Initial Options Document (April 2006) sets out 6 possible options for the regeneration of the Town Centre North area. They have been prepared following feedback from major land owners, developers and the public. All options seek to improve the 'retail offer' in Poole Town Centre, its vitality; access and movement and the quality of the area. The Sustainability Appraisal document sets out how the Initial Options for the town centre north area perform in sustainable development terms. The document comments on the likely environmental, economic and social impacts, both good and bad that Initial Options are likely to have. The document sets out changes that should be made to the Preferred Options document to ensure the AAP maximises economic and social gain and minimises adverse environmental consequences. Examples of the latter, for example, include the need for a clear position with regard to on-site renewable energy generation and energy efficiency measures.

Consultation

Both documents were issued for consultation between 20th April to 1st June 2006. Consultation technics included a Stakeholder Workshop and a series of exhibitions and walkabout tours . These events informed the preparation of an urban design audit of the town Centre north area to analyse the problems and opportunities on the ground. Feedback from this consultation was used to inform 'Preferred Options' for the Town Centre North area. The written feedback received by the Council to the Initial Options consultation has also been summarised and a PDF summary is available to download.
