Implementing Electronic Government 2001 Statement
Purpose
Poole, like all Councils, has been set a Government target to improve the delivery of services by providing or supporting them electronically. We must achieve this target by 2005.
This improvement of the accessibility, quality and cost effectiveness of Council services involves making the best use of information and communications technology and is known as "electronic Government" or "e-Government". Implementing e-Government means that people will have more choice about how and when they contact us or access information and services, complementing rather than replacing the ways we already provide them.
The IEG Statement is an annual document. This Statement sets out the Council's overall vision for modern service delivery, addressing issues such as the need for partnership, consultation, accessibility and improvement. It also lays the foundations for the style in which Poole will approach e-Government and summarises the practical steps it will take to achieve the Vision. The IEG Statement is a first step by the Council towards developing a strategy for the implementation of e-Government and will be used as a building block for its development. The Statement has been written for the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, in line with their guidance which means that it contains Government jargon.
