Equalities Action Plan

Purpose

The original Corporate Equalities Action Plan was approved by Cabinet in November 2005. It was developed as a result of each service unit looking how they currently provide their services and asking whether they need to do anything differently to address the specific needs of, for example, black and minority ethnic people, or women, or disabled people. This is known as undertaking Equality Impact Assessments (link opens in a new window).

This year’s annual review of the action plan was reported to Cabinet on the 5 December 2006 and this new document reflects some of the key milestones achieved by the Council over the last year. It also gives details of the actions that the Council will undertake over the coming two years to address its equality duties and meet its performance targets (link to Equality Standard).

The format of the action plan is as follows: the first section covering the Borough’s key objectives and actions that are common to the six equality strands, and then in a second part that looks at issues specific to equality strands.
