Poole has campaigned for a much needed second harbour crossing for over 30 years. The new crossing would help ease traffic congestion and unlock the vast area of underused land located in the central area of the town.
The Daily Echo promotion and the 10,000 strong petition from local residents played key roles in triggering the button for action. The proposed second bridge has already become a catalyst for change across the town, driving forward and delivering a wide range of renewal projects which are capturing the imagination of businesses and residents alike.
The public have been involved every step of the way, taking part in stakeholder workshops, consultation events and exhibitions. All this work ultimately culminated in a bid for a new harbour crossing being made in the Local Transport Plan to Government in 2000.
