10 Dec 09ASBO Issued To Poole Teenager
A young person from Poole town has become the subject of an Anti-social Behaviour Order (ASBO).
Bournemouth Magistrates Court awarded Borough of Poole and Dorset Police the ASBO.
The court heard that the 16-year-old male, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had committed a number of assaults, thefts, damaged a neighbour's property and threatened residents.
An ASBO is a civil order introduced under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and is designed to help police and local authorities tackle anti-social behaviour in their communities.
It is aimed at preventing further incidents and under the order a range of conditions can be applied to the individual for the duration of the ASBO.
In this case, the ASBO will prohibit the young male from:
- Entering the grounds of both Tesco Express and Rossmore Community College, Herbert Avenue
- Causing harassment, distress and alarm to anyone in Poole
- Associating with certain named individuals
Ian Cooke, Acting Community Safety and Development Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "This ASBO, alongside the recent introduction of a dispersal area, demonstrate that we will use the powers available to us to put an end to anti-social behaviour and protect the community from a minority who choose to act in this way. This sends out a message to others who are part of this group and others whose behaviour affects the community."
Breach of an ASBO is a criminal offence and a person caught breaking conditions of their order will be arrested and brought before the courts.
