4 Dec 09New Dial-a-Bus Service For Merley and Bearwood
Dial-a-Bus passengers living in Merley and Bearwood will benefit from a new shopping destination from Monday 7 December 2009.
Following requests from members of the Poole Community Transport Service for additional places to visit and shop, a weekly service will operate on a trial basis to and from Wimborne every Monday.
Residents living in the Borough of Poole without access to a car and who are unable to use public transport could be eligible for the Poole Community Transport Service.
The Dial-a-Bus service is part of the scheme run by the council and charity Poole Council Voluntary Service, which offers accessible door-to-door transport for people with special transport and access needs.
Passengers from Merley and Bearwood will be taken to Wimborne Square by a mini-bus service, where they can enjoy two hours shopping before being taken home.
The return fare costs just £2 or concessionary travel vouchers may also be used to pay for the journey.
Councillor Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "We are delighted to offer this service to Merley and Bearwood residents who find it difficult to travel to and from Wimborne using public transport. The service currently operating to and from Poole town centre is extremely popular and highly valued by those using it, and we hope residents in the Merley and Bearwood areas find this new service equally as useful."
The Wimborne Dial-a-Bus service will run for six months on a trial basis and if successful will continue on a permanent basis.
To use the Dial-a-Bus and other Poole Community Transport Services it is first necessary to join the scheme, and journeys must be pre-booked.
