Your Poole, Your Say - Place Survey Results

Most people are satisfied with life in Poole, according to a major survey of thousands of households across the borough.

Results of the 2008 Place Survey link will open in new window show that 87% of residents who responded said they were satisfied with Poole as a place to live.

5,500 households across Poole were invited to give their views on life in Poole and a range of local services, including recycling, public transport and leisure facilities. A total of 2,316 responses to the survey were received.

Residents were also asked what they thought about the performance of council, police, fire, and health services. The council and other agencies within Poole Partnership link will open in new window will now use the results to help make decisions about important services for people living in Poole.

Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, said: "I am delighted so many of the people who took part in the survey think that Poole is a great place to live. The views of residents are very important to us and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the survey. It provides valuable feedback that will help us to identify services that residents think are performing well and to pinpoint those that could be improved in the future.

"We were extremely pleased recently when the Audit Commission again rated Borough of Poole as a top performing four-star council and acknowledged our commitment to providing good services for the people of Poole. Equally, it is just as important for us to listen to the views of people who use our services every day."

Provisional survey figures received by the council showed that 90% of people who responded said they were satisfied with refuse collections. Some 83% of respondents registered their satisfaction with doorstep recycling services. Poole's parks and open spaces also scored highly (80%), as did libraries (72%).

Overall, a majority of residents (54%) said they were satisfied with the way the council runs local services.

The Government requests each local authority in England and Wales carry out the survey every two years to compare and measure the performance of local services.
