15 Jun 09Free Sports Taster Festival at Ashdown
Poole's Festival of Sport on Saturday 20 June promises to be the biggest and best yet - with plenty of fun, free activities on offer for all the family.
The annual festival, organised by Borough of Poole, takes place at Ashdown Leisure Centre, Canford Heath, between 10am and 3pm.
People will get the chance to try more than 15 different sports and activities, free of charge, including archery, hockey, martial arts and cycling.
Other activities on offer include climbing, gymnastics, cheerleading and disk golf.
The festival, now in its third year, aims to promote healthy living and encourage more people to be more active. It also offers local sports clubs an opportunity to recruit new members. Last year's festival attracted about 1,300 people and organisers are hoping many more will come along to have a go at the activities on offer.
People attending this year's event will also receive a booklet offering three free vouchers to access a sports club of their choice after the festival.
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: "This event offers a great opportunity for residents to get involved, without cost, in a variety of sports and activities which they may not have had the chance to try before, as well as being a great day out for all the family."
