Volunteers Make A Dash For Trash

Dash for Trash litter pick volunteersVolunteers filled over 50 refuse sacks with waste collected during a litter pick along the Holes Bay Road on Thursday 21 May.

Borough of Poole organised the Dash for Trash as part of Big Green Fortnight and over 50 volunteers came to help clear the two mile stretch between Asda and Upton Country Park.

Invitations were sent to local businesses, individuals, and organisations. As well as the public, volunteers came from Lush Cosmetics, Barclays International, Poole Harbour Commissioners and McDonalds.

Shaun Robson, Head of Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, Borough of Poole, said: "For so many to come and take part in the 'Dash for Trash' is a fantastic sign of how committed people in Poole are to making sure the area remains attractive and appealing. This event was a great success and a huge thank you must go to everyone who gave up their time to help."

Volunteers were split into groups and given the task of picking litter from a 100m section of the coastline before being able to move onto the next section.

By the end of the day almost the entire two-mile stretch had been cleared of litter and other items including shopping trolleys, tyres, remnants of a boat, a fire extinguisher, and polystyrene blocks.
