Beautiful Poole Park now hosts the first Wi-Fi
facility in a British park offering high speed internet browsing to its many visitors.
The exciting facility has been running since April and offers residents and visitors the chance to check their email and surf the web while enjoying the stunning surrounds of the Victorian park.
The initiative is jointly funded by Friends of Poole Park
, Borough of Poole and Bournemouth and Poole College
.
Joining the Poole Park Wi-Fi network is quick, easy and free of charge. A number of devices with Wi-Fi radio including laptops, mobile phones and personal digital assistants, can be used to connect to the network.
Instructions on how to configure your wireless adaptor are available from the Friends of Poole Park information kiosk opposite Mezza Luna
restaurant and on the right hand side of this web page.
Routers in Mezza Luna restaurant and Central Park
mean the network can be accessed from almost anywhere in the park with the log-on zone extending from the cricket pitch on the Eastern side of the park to the large playground in the West field.
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: "We really appreciate the efforts of the Friends for introducing Wi-Fi into the park, making it the first in the UK to have this facility. It provides a great opportunity for people to get online while enjoying the lovely surroundings of Poole Park."
Julie-Anne Houldey, College Marketing Director for Bournemouth and Poole College, said: "This is an excellent resource for students and staff at the college and we are proud to be involved with a scheme that enables all the park's visitors to access modern technology."
Bob Lister, Friends of Poole Park, said: "We are delighted Wi-Fi is up and running. In addition to providing local people and visitors with new park facilities, we also anticipate event organisers will make good use of the new technology for their activities."
