30 Dec 08Free Parking Days In Poole
Borough of Poole is providing two days of car parking free of charge in the new year.
Motorists will be able to park without charge in any of the council's town centre and beach car parks between 10am and 4.30pm on January 4 and 11, 2009.
The council is offering the two free parking days to pass on the temporary 2.5 per cent VAT reduction announced in the Government's pre-budget report.
Councillor Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: "We wanted to pass on the temporary reduction in VAT to our customers through free parking. We hope residents and visitors to Poole will take full advantage of this offer and benefit from the January sales."
Revised proposals for 2009/10 parking charges also take in account the reduction in VAT.
Members of Borough of Poole's Transportation Advisory Group will consider these proposals on January 8, 2009. Where possible, the VAT reduction will be passed on to customers through the revised charges.
Proposed changes include a 10p increase in town centre car park charges, an all-day fee of £1 on Sundays and modest increases in some permits and season tickets.
Kay English, Parking Services Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "The cost of parking in Poole is low compared to other major towns in the region and continues to represent good value for money. The revised parking charges are necessary to ensure the council is able to maintain and improve services. Over the next few months, residents and visitors to Poole will see a number of improvements to parking facilities in the town."
