Top Marks For Poole's Adult Social Services

Borough of Poole has been awarded top marks for delivering social services for the third year running.

The Commission for Social Care Inspectorate link will open in new window (CSCI), in 2009 this will become the Care Quality Commission link will open in new window (CQC)  has awarded Poole Adult Social Services its maximum three-star rating for delivering quality services to people across the borough.

Borough of Poole is one of only three local authorities in the South West to receive the highest three-star rating and is judged by CSCI as 'good in terms of delivering outcomes with excellent capacity for improvement'.

The CSCI report, published today, rates the performance of every local authority adult social services in England. The ratings, which range from zero to three stars, are designed to inform local people about how well their council is doing in providing social care for adults.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Well-being and Housing, Borough of Poole, said: "It is fantastic news to have retained the three-star rating for a third year running as the council is committed to promoting health and well-being in Poole. This result is testament to the commitment and professionalism of staff as well as the dedication of partners from the voluntary and statutory sector. It is also recognises the contribution made by carers and service users in helping shape services to meet the changing needs of our community, particularly our ageing population."

Poole resident Joyce Kerley, said: "The care I have received from the Poole Intermediate Care Service was marvellous and the equipment supplied by the occupational therapy service has helped me to get around my house more easily. There is a real personal touch to the service, it really made me feel at ease".

Increasing numbers of older people in Poole are now receiving care services in their own home, helping to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. More people with physical disabilities are being helped to remain independent through the provision of rails, ramps and widening of doors for wheelchairs.

Borough of Poole's Gateway Mental Health Service also recently received a community care award for partnership working in relation to treatment for people with anxiety and depression.
