The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Joyce Lavender, has officially opened a new play and exercise facility at Branksome Recreation Ground.
The three metre high climbing wall is made up of four separate stones, each with the look and feel of natural rock.
The wall is intended to appeal to a broad range of ages and abilities and moves away from traditional play equipment by introducing elements of managed risk for youngsters.
Rubber flooring installed for safety is brightly coloured and features a beach, islands and shark infested waters. Youngsters can also brave the spider's web that links two of the stones.
The equipment is designed in a way that it can be used unsupervised and has undergone a number of safety checks.
Commissioned by Leisure Services at Borough of Poole, the new play equipment was funded by contributions from private developers towards providing facilities and services needed to mitigate the impact of development.
Councillor Peter Adams, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: "Climbing builds strength and agility, develops co-ordination and judgment skills and can lead to a real sense of achievement for young people. Rigorous safety checks have been carried out to ensure that those using the equipment are able to use and enjoy it safely. We look forward to seeing the benefit youngsters gain from it."
