Recycling on the Go!

Poole town centre and other key shopping and leisure areas will soon have a smart new look as 300 new waste bins begin to be installed.

New dual waste binOver the next ten weeks new dual waste bins will enable shoppers to recycle on the go, helping Poole to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill sites.

The black and blue coloured units will be branded in line with Poole’s highly successful doorstep waste collections, giving people the opportunity to recycle more street waste and help keep the borough free of litter.

People will be able to drop general and bagged dog waste in the black section of the new bin. In addition, they can deposit recyclable items such as glass, plastic bottles, paper and cans in the blue section. The containers also feature an ashtray and stubbing plate for disposal of cigarette butts.

Installation begins in Ashley Road, Parkstone and will eventually cover commercial areas of Canford Heath, Broadstone, Poole Town Centre link will open in new windowand Sandbanks, plus the quayside and popular open spaces at Baiter, Whitecliff and Hamworthy Park.

New twin compartment vehicles capable of loading both types of waste at the same time will drastically reduce vehicle movements in the provision of this new service.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “I am really pleased that we have secured the funding to gradually replace our tired old bins. The new bins will not only smarten up the town but should reduce litter and, most importantly, provide the opportunity to improve our already outstanding recycling record.”
