24 Jan 08Poole Park's New Information Kiosk
A new kiosk has opened in Poole Park, providing visitors with information about activities and events taking place in the park and the surrounding area.
Borough of Poole's Leisure Services and 'Friends of Poole Park'
have converted a former ice cream kiosk near the Mezza Luna restaurant into an information point offering free printed material and advice about the park's amenities and range of attractions.
Bob Lister, Friends of Poole Park, said: "The information kiosk will be run and manned by 'Friends of Poole Park' volunteers as much as possible in the summer months, on fine winter weekends and for special events. The kiosk will also sell numerous items to raise funds for the 'Friends of Poole Park', including bird food, old postcards and commemorative plates."
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: "This is a welcome addition to Poole Park. The 'Friends of Poole Park' and Borough of Poole work extremely hard to organise special events and activities in the park throughout the year and the kiosk is an excellent way of promoting these and other local attractions."
Restoration work took six weeks, including gutting of the original structure, installation of a new roof, floor, plumbing and heating, and redecoration inside and out. An 'art deco' style information sign has been erected on the front to advertise the new kiosk.
The old ice cream kiosk, previously in its place, was in use from 1945 until September 2006. The nearby Mezza Luna restaurant has a takeaway kiosk selling ice cream and other refreshments.
