Head Teachers Learn How To Protect Young Internet Users

Head teachers from Poole schools will be among the delegates at a major conference about safeguarding young people who use the internet.

Some 35 head teachers and senior schools leaders from Poole will join national and international experts at the e-safety conference link will open in new window at the Bournemouth International Centre link will open in new window (BIC) on November 20.

Teachers will be given advice on the safeguards available to help them protect young people in their care. Workshops will focus on different aspects of internet and mobile technologies that affect young people, including the rise of cyberbullying. There will also be opportunities to create strategies and share approaches with other schools.

The event is one of four major conferences being held in the South West region and will feature representatives from organisations such as Childnet International, Vodafone and Barnardo’s.

Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, Borough of Poole, said: “Our main priority is the safety and well-being of young people when they are in school. The internet and mobile technologies are a big part of young people’s lives and it is important that schools do everything they can to ensure that young people are protected when using these technologies in school.”

The conferences have been organised by the 15 local authorities that comprise SWGfL link will open in new window (South West Grid for Learning), including Borough of Poole, in conjunction with partner organisations.

The conferences are supported by the five South West regional police divisions, including Dorset link will open in new window. Police officers will be present at the conference to offer their perspective.
