Tea Party For Carers

A special tea party is being held for people in Poole who look after a friend or relative who has a long-term illness or disability.

The free tea party will be held on 7 December, which is National 'Carers Rights Day' link will open in new window, between 1:30pm - 4:00pm in Broadstone.

Carers will have the opportunity to chat to people in similar situations over tea and cake. Trained professionals will be at the event to talk about carers' rights and offer advice about the benefits and services that are available.

Val Mitchell, Carers Services Manager for Poole Adult Social Services said; "One in eight people in the UK look after a friend or relative to help them remain at home. Carers can be any age, from a child caring for their parent who has a disability, to an adult caring for their partner."

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Well-being, said: "It is so important that carers know where to find the information and get the support they need. Many people each year give up work to care for someone at home, however research shows that if these people had better access to services and information they may be able to get help to look after their loved one without giving up work."
