Unsafe Toys Seized In Poole High Street

Borough of Poole has seized potentially dangerous toys from a man selling out of a trolley on Poole High Street.

Officers from Environmental and Consumer Protection Services seized 54 unsold battery operated soft toy animals, all of which were not labelled in accordance with toy safety regulations. The toys were very poor quality despite some bearing the CE mark indicating that they have been made to European safety standards.

The man selling the toys was not an authorised trader at Poole High Street market.

Small batteries could also fall out of the toys easily as there was no screw fixing to hold them in place.

The toys are about 15 cm long, and resemble rabbits, dogs, cats and tigers. They were sold for approximately £2 each. Advice to anyone who thinks they may have bought the toys is not to use them and ensure that they are not given to young children to play with.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Officers from Environmental and Consumer Protection Services will always take action, including seizure of any toys and goods, if they are believed to be dangerous or not correctly labelled with safety information and warnings. We would advise residents to only buy from legitimate traders and only buy toys which are labelled with both the ‘CE’ mark and the name and address of the manufacturer or supplier.”
