5 Sep 07Dog Control Orders In Poole
From the 7 September, dog owners who don’t abide by Dog Control Orders will be issued with fixed penalty notices in three areas of the Borough where dogs are banned or restricted.
Borough of Poole have issued the following Dog Control Orders:
- Dog must be kept on a lead when on the promenade between Western End promenade Sandbanks and the border with Bournemouth between the months of 1 May and 30 September only.
- Dogs are not allowed on the beaches between Western End promenade at Sandbanks and Branksome Chine Beach office between the months of 1 May and 30 September only.
- Dog are banned from Hamworthy Park Playground at all times
The two beach related Dog Control Orders replace existing bye-laws, whilst the Dog Control Order at Hamworthy Park is a new introduction.
The Dog Control orders allow Borough of Poole to issue fixed penalty notices (FPN) to enforce the orders as part of the Cleaner Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005 
.
The Dog Control Orders were agreed following a detailed public consultation period and consideration at Area Committee.
Cllr Peter Adams, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: “These orders are in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the park and beaches and to help us maintain a safe and clean environment in busy periods."
Clive Smith, Head of Leisure Services, said: “The Dog Control orders are intended to achieve the right balance of freedom for dog owners and appropriate controls for dogs and dog fouling. Borough of Poole’s officers will be enforcing these and will issue fixed penalty notices when necessary.”
The payment for FPN would be £75 if paid in 14 days and £50 if paid in seven days. Failure to pay may result in prosecution. There will be exceptions for people who are blind, deaf or have a disability and are using a trained assistance dog.
Copies of the orders are available free of charge at Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, Unit 1, Newfields Business Park, Stinsford Road, Poole between 8.30am and 5.15 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.45pm on Fridays.
