17 Aug 07A Festival Of Arts For All The Family
A free of charge, fun-packed day of arts, music and performances is coming to the beautiful surroundings of Upton Country Park.
The Poole Family Arts Festival, on Sunday, September 2, showcases the performing arts and give families and children a great opportunity to explore their artistic talents.
The festival, organised by Borough of Poole’s Arts Development Unit, will feature a live music stage, theatre and dance workshops, storytelling and an introduction to circus skills.
Children of all ages will be able to join in the fun by making their own musical instruments, while hands-on art and craft sessions will offer the chance to create exotic butterflies and bugs.
Other attractions include an African dance workshop, willow shelter building and a garden detective treasure hunt. And for the very young, there is a special arts activity for the under fives.
Upton Country Park is the ideal setting for this year’s festival, which has the theme Nature in Art, offering more than 100 acres of woodland, park and shoreline.
Marianne Scahill, Arts in the Community Officer, Culture and Community Services, said: “This year’s theme is inspired by nature, making Upton Country Park the perfect location for the festival. People can explore the arts in a beautiful setting. We encourage families to bring a picnic and join in the fun!”
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for local children to learn about the different types of art. As well as art in its traditional sense, this festival gives people a chance to experience, learn and enjoy a range of performing art activities.”
The festival is free of charge and runs from 10.30am to 5.30pm. For a full programme of events, or more information, please contact Marianne Scahill on 01202 633972.
British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters will be at the festival and there is full wheelchair access.
