Councillor Jeff Allen has been elected as Poole’s 759th Mayor at this year’s Mayor Making Ceremony.

The traditional annual occasion, which is one of the highlights in the civic calendar, also saw Councillor Joyce Lavender elected as Sheriff and Councillor Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole in 2006/2007, appointed Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Allen’s duties include chairing all meetings of the full Council, overseeing all Citizenship Ceremonies for those becoming British citizens in Poole and representing the people of Poole as their ambassador at the many functions he will attend in his Mayoral year.

The new Mayor of Poole has chosen two projects for his Mayoral year :

Dorset HealthCare NHS Foundation Trust link will open in new window - An initiative to increase access to complimentary therapies for older people with dementia and associated conditions in Poole who are being supported either in the community or at Alderney hospital.

Parkstone Sea Cadets link will open in new window – A youth organisation assisting young people towards responsible adulthood.

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Jeff Allen, said: “I am looking forward to a busy and fruitful year ahead. The charities I am supporting represent the varied age range of the Borough’s residents and the importance of providing opportunities and assistance to all.”

Councillor Allen has been a Poole councillor since 1991 and represents the ward of Canford Heath West. His main committee responsibilities include Licensing, Planning and Emergency Planning. He has been married to Rosemary for 38 years and has three children and three grandchildren. He runs his own business retailing and engraving trophies in his shop in the High Street.

Councillor Joyce Lavender, Sheriff of Poole, will be supporting the Mayor in Civic duties and responsibilities. She has been a Poole councillor since 2003 representing the Branksome West ward.

Cllr Joyce Lavender, Sheriff of Poole, said: “I am incredibly proud to have been elected as Sheriff of the Borough of Poole. It is a great privilege to represent this town of which I am immensely proud.”

Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Deputy Mayor of Poole said: "I wish to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me, it has been an absolutely amazing year. The people of Poole have made my time as Mayor magical and something I will never forget.”
