4 Jun 07Car Park Success Again For Poole
Borough of Poole has had a further four car parks accredited with the nationally recognised ‘Park Mark’
Safer Parking Scheme Award.
The most recent car parks to receive this accolade are Broadstone (both Story Lane and Station Approach), Harbourside 1 and Branksome Chine.
Borough of Poole now has a total of ten car parks accredited by Park Mark including the four town centre car parks, Sandbanks and the Dolphin swimming pool car parks, which were approved last year.
The car parks were judged on criteria such as management, maintenance and appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness - all of which contribute to reducing opportunities for crime.
‘Park Mark’ is a scheme owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers
and administered on their behalf by the British Parking Association. Awards are given by the Police to car parks that have achieved the standards required by the Park Mark scheme.
Richard Hein, Parking Services Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “It is a credit to the members of staff working in our car parks that we now have another four accredited.
The ‘Park Mark’ scheme is designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks. Residents can assist with this by not leaving valuable items on display in vehicles.”
Cllr Mike White, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, said: “Our main objective is that people feel safe when using Poole’s car parks. The Park Mark award is recognition that we are doing everything we can to achieve this.”
Crime in Borough of Poole controlled car parks fell to the lowest levels ever in 2006/07, with only ten vehicle crimes in Council multi-storey car parks despite 1,790,997 users and in all car parks a total of only 30 crimes despite nearly four million users.
‘Poole Safe Together Partnership’ has been working alongside the Police’s ‘Operation Wave’ initiative, which focuses on tackling vehicle crime. Further investments in car parks include installing audible warning systems in multi story car parks with funding provided by the ‘Poole Safe Together Partnership’.
