20 Apr 07Work To Start On New Slipway
Work will start at Slip Way off West Quay Road in Poole on April 23 to improve facilities for boat users to gain access to Back Water Channel and Holes Bay.
The works include the construction of a new slipway, new storage facilities for 58 tenders and resurfacing the road. Work will be complete by Summer 2007 and will cost approximately £160,000.
Once complete, the boat launching facilities at Slip Way will replace the existing facilities at Wilkins Way, which is the location for the new Twin Sails Bridge.
Jim Bright, Strategic Director, Borough of Poole said: “This construction helps pave the way towards the new Twin Sails Bridge. I am pleased to see improved facilities for local boat owners. Construction of the slip way is a tangible expression of the Council’s commitment towards regenerating the town.”
Peter Booth, Harbour Master, Poole Harbour Commissioners
, said: “This is the first construction phase in the timetable for the provision of the new bridge. It will maintain good access to the water in Holes Bay and benefit the mooring holders in the Backwater Channel.”
