20 Apr 07Developing A Vision For Sterte
More than 100 local people attended a "design work in progress" exhibition on 18 April to view draft plans and proposals for Sterte, Poole.

Representatives from Borough of Poole and Knightstone Housing Association
were on hand to answer any questions about the plans, which focused on the provision of affordable housing at Sterte Close, and developing a vision for improvements to the open space at Sterte Esplanade (Sterte Green)
The exhibition was held at TS Drax, the Sea Cadets Hall in Sterte Avenue West from 3-8pm.
Borough of Poole's Leisure Services are working with Knightstone Housing Association, who has been awarded funding by the Housing Corporation
, to provide a mix of new homes on housing owned land near to the existing tower blocks of Sterte Court.
The project will result in the creation of approximately 48 new affordable homes for sale and rent to local people, enhancement of existing Council owned homes and their environment, and better recreation facilities.
In addition, the council is working with Land-Form Chartered Landscape Architects to prepare an improvement plan for Sterte Green, using "recreational contributions" planning obligations funding from a number of sources in the area.
Local residents were encouraged to leave written comments and observations that will be taken into account when forming the final proposals for the area.
Prior to this exhibition, there had been extensive consultation with residents to agree a future vision for the open space, reflecting its existing character and visual quality. Residents were also asked to consider the increased recreational use and needs of local people by an enlarged community.
Mike Childs, Strategy Officer, Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "This 'work in progress' exhibition follows a series of community led workshops were we took the opportunity to listen to residents' views on how they think the development should progress. At the start of the consultation, it was realised that the Council would need to work closely with the Housing Association and the local community to develop an overall scheme for the Sterte Area that integrates design of public open space and infrastructure such as roads and parking."
A final exhibition of detailed proposals is scheduled for June 2007, on a date that will be advertised locally.
