Drama Facility Refurbishment Complete At Rossmore Community College

Staff and pupils from Rossmore Community College link will open in new window have been given the keys to their new drama facility following a refurbishment project known as 'The ICARUS project'.

The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel link will open in new window has spearheaded this project by raising around £25,000 for the new drama studio over the last eighteen months. Representatives from Marriott and Rok project teams and students, staff and school governors were invited to see the new drama facility at the handover event which was held on the 18 April.

The refurbishment work started in March, following a massive fund raising effort which included a Gala dinner in February, hosted by Marriott Hotel to raise money for the refurbishment project.

Further work to install new lighting and sound equipment and theatre seating will be completed in time for an official grand opening celebration in July.

Sally Apps, Headteacher of Rossmore Community College, said; "We are thrilled with the refurbishment work that has been carried out. This has given us a new, state-of-the-art facility that we can be really proud of. Staff and students have been eagerly waiting for it to be ready so we can continue the excellent performing and creative arts work that Rossmore Community College is renowned for."

Cheryll Wilkinson, Community Liaison, Rok, said; "Rok is delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Marriott Hotel and Rossmore Community College on this extremely worthwhile project."

Sergio Snyder, Director of Human Resources, Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel, said; "We wanted to make a significant change for local young people. This has been achieved by working closely with Rossmore Community College and Rok and due to the effort of our staff and customers. The Marriott Hotel has strong links with education and we hope to work with Rossmore Community College on future projects."

John Nash, Strategic Director, Borough of Poole, said: "This project demonstrates how local businesses and schools can work in partnership to achieve great results. We will encourage similar project work with local businesses in the future."
