16 Jul 07Crossing Borders To Poole Central Library
Successful author Susan Curtis will be returning to her roots when she appears at Poole Central Library on July 21 to talk about her latest book.
Susan, who grew up in Poole, will be presenting her novel, 'Crossing Borders' and offering aspiring writers tips on how to publish their work.
The author now lives in Zagreb and has drawn upon her own travel experiences in 'Crossing Borders', which explores the sensitive issue of immigration through a story of love and betrayal moving from the cafés of Bloomsbury to the back streets of Bucharest.
Susan said: "My aim was to tell the story of ordinary people attempting to live and to love in a world divided by borders; both physical, cultural and economical. It is a classic tale of a person attempting to lead a humane life in a frequently brutal world."
Besides talking about her work, Susan will be talking about self- publishing techniques and the latest online ‘Print-on-Demand’ technology, which allows authors to bring their work to the attention of a world-wide audience.
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture, said: “We are very keen to showcase local talent at Borough of Poole Libraries. It provides an opportunity for local people to see what has been achieved by people from the town and may encourage and inspire other people with similar aspirations.”
The event will be held at Poole Central Library on July 21 at 2.30pm. Tickets are £2 each, including refreshments, and are available at the Central Library desk or by phoning 01202 262421.
