10 Apr 07Poole Works With DVLA On Untaxed Vehicle Crackdown
Motorists in Poole are being reminded to keep their car tax up to date following a joint initiative by Borough of Poole and the Driver and Vehicle Licence Agency
(DVLA).
Officers from Borough of Poole’s Environmental and Consumer Protection Services (E&CPS), working with DVLA contractors NCP
, identified 16 vehicles without road tax as part of a three-day operation in Poole.
Of the 16 untaxed vehicles identified during the operation, ten were removed and impounded and a further four were clamped.
NCP use specially-equipped vans fitted with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology which can check number plates against a list of untaxed vehicles in a matter of seconds.
E&CPS is working with NCP to target untaxed vehicles in a bid to make Poole’s roads safer. As car tax can only be purchased with valid MOT and insurance certificates, it reduces the number of potentially dangerous, untaxed, uninsured and unroadworthy vehicles on the road.
Lucy Magill, Regulatory Services Manager, Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, said: “To help keep the Borough clean, green and safe we are committed to removing abandoned vehicles. Working with the NCP and DVLA to remove untaxed vehicles is another way that we can ensure that vehicles which should not be on the road are removed.”
If you know of an abandoned vehicle you can report it to Environmental and Consumer Protection Services on 01202 261700 or email prideinpoole@poole.gov.uk. Untaxed vehicles can be reported to DVLA at www.dvla.gov.uk or by calling 0800 0325 202.
