20 Jul 07'Recycle 5' Message Goes On The Buses
Borough of Poole’s message calling on people to recycle more is going on the buses this summer.
Eye-catching adverts are appearing on Wilts & Dorset
buses throughout the summer months promoting the council’s ‘Recycle 5’ campaign.
‘Recycle 5’ focuses on the five categories of household waste - paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, glass and tin cans - which can be recycled using Borough of Poole’s popular blue bin scheme.
The adverts will carry the slogan ‘When I Grow Up…’ which highlights how ordinary household waste can be recycled and turned into new products.
The campaign is aimed at encouraging people who come to Poole during the summer to recycle more while they enjoy their stay. Visitors will be encouraged to pledge to recycle while in Poole and take their good habits home with them.
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted with the success of the blue bin scheme which has proved popular with residents. Hopefully, this latest campaign will encourage the thousands of people who visit Poole during the summer to support our efforts to recycle more waste and act as a reminder to residents to help keep our town clean and litter free.”
As well as appearing on buses, the ‘Recycle 5’ message is featuring on bus shelters and is also being promoted on radio, posters and other promotional items.
The radio campaign will run until the middle of September encouraging visitors to the beach to use blue recycling bins provided on the promenade.
The promotion campaign is being funded by WRAP
(Waste Resource Action Programme) which has awarded Borough of Poole £259,100 to promote blue bin recycling.
In addition to the bus adverts, a series of events, including street theatre, are planned around Poole to promote the recycling message.
Eco-pirates from the street theatre group Desperate Men
will be at Branksome Beach on Monday, July 23 at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm; and at Shore Road beach on Tuesday, July 24 at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm.
