27 Jul 07Family Fun Days In Poole
Borough of Poole is staging two family fun days this August to keep children entertained at the start of their summer holidays.
Upton Country Park is hosting a children’s wildlife fun day on August 1, while Turlin Moor is the venue for a family fun day on August 8.
The popular wildlife fun day offers children a chance to get closer to nature and learn more about the animal and plant life in the country park.
Teams from the RSPB
and other groups, such as the Butterfly Conservation Society
and Borough of Poole’s own Children’s Library Service, will run a host of activities for young people around the central theme of animal foot prints.
Children of all ages will be able to have a go at lots of craft activities, quizzes and games. Last year’s fun day was a big success, attracting more than 800 children to the park, which has just been awarded a prestigious Green Flag
.
Justine Hawkes, Senior Ranger for Upton Country Park, Borough of Poole, said: “The wildlife event is a great opportunity for children to learn and understand about the wildlife that is on their doorstep. There is so much wildlife to see at Upton Country Park, making it an ideal setting for the event.”
Street dance, face painting and circus skills exhibitions will be some of the attractions people can enjoy at the Turlin Moor fun day. The event, being staged on the recreation ground behind the pavilion on Turlin Moor, will also feature environmental art workshops, climbing walls and a children’s bouncy castle.
Martin Whitchurch, Ranger for Hamworthy and Creekmoor, Borough of Poole, said: “Last year’s event was really busy throughout the day. This year, the fun day will feature just as many activities and hopefully will prove just as popular, and remember it’s all free.”
Borough of Poole’s Leisure Services department has organised both events. The children’s wildlife fun day is held on August 1 between 10.30am and 4pm. Entry is £1, with the proceeds going back into educational activities within the park. The Turlin Moor fun day takes places on August 8 between 11am and 4pm and admission is free.
Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: “Both events encourage people to get out and about during the summer holidays and enjoy the areas they live in. Both local people and visitors to Poole are most welcome.”
