Ah, There Be Treasure In Them Blue Bins!

Eco-pirates are set to invade Sandbanks and Branksome Beach with a precious cargo of recycling treasure to bury in Borough of Poole’s popular blue bins.

Cycling on the beach.Members of the Desperate Men street theatre group will be landing their pirate boat on the beaches on August 2 and 3 to encourage holidaymakers to use the blue recycling bins all along the seafront.

The band of eco-pirates will be carrying a large chest containing Poole’s five recyclable ‘treasures’ – paper, cardboard, cans, glass and plastic bottles – all of which can be deposited in the council’s blue bins.

They will be recruiting people on the beach to recycle more of their waste as part of the Recycle for Poole fun days promoting the use of Poole’s blue recycling bins.

The Animal Bike Tour will showcase the world-class talents of trails rider Martyn Ashton and dirt jump expert Grant ‘Chopper’ Fielder on a specially constructed bike park featuring a ‘skate park’ style ramp and quarter pipe.

Borough of Poole staff will be giving away recycling freebies including tea towels and cloth bags.

They will also be inviting visitors to sign a pledge to recycle more and use the blue bins during their visit to Poole’s beaches. Borough of Poole has introduced new dual bins along the promenade so beach users can deposit recyclable waste as well as other rubbish.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “The blue bin scheme has proved very popular with residents and we hope this campaign will encourage the thousands of people who visit Poole during the summer to support our efforts to recycle more waste and help keep our splendid beaches clean and litter free.”

The Recycle for Poole event will be held on the beach at Sandbanks on Thursday, August 2, and at Branksome Beach on Friday, August 3. Events start at 10am and go on throughout the day.
