11 Oct 05Summary of Week Two of the Public Inquiry
Week two of the Twin Sails Public Inquiry at the Borough of Poole's Civic Centre has now concluded with objectors presenting their concerns about the scheme.
They included George Pittock of Poole Boat Park which would be lost in the event of the Twin Sails Bridge being given the go-ahead and Bob Watton from Poole Harbour Association who expressed fears about the loss or changes to slipways in West Quay Road. Other objectors included representatives from the Fisherman's Association and other individual boat owners.
The Environment Agency and RNLI had been due to give evidence but withdrew their objections after reaching a last minute agreement with the council.
Each of the objectors cross examined several of the Council's officers and key witnesses as part of their time appearing at the Inquiry. In return the Council's barrister, Andrew Tait QC, cross-examined several of the objectors about their evidence.
Throughout the week a steady stream of members of the public and interested parties attended the proceedings.
Week 3 of the inquiry which began today will largely see Marina Developments Ltd through barrister Patrick Clarkson QC presenting its objections to the Council's case.
The Public Inquiry takes place before Planning Inspector Mr Christopher Tipping (Cantab ) in the Conference Room from Tuesday to Thursday 10am to 5pm and on Friday mornings from 9.30am to 1pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Any queries about the Public Inquiry should be directed through Programme Officer Rhalina Yuill on ext 3370.
