Award success for Poole’s beaches

Poole is once again celebrating seaside success following today’s announcement of prestigious awards for its beaches.

For the first time Hamworthy Park has achieved the Rural Seaside Awards status, alongside Lake Pier (Ham Common).  Poole’s other award winning beach resorts include Sandbanks Peninsular Beach, Shore Road Beach, Branksome Chine Beach and Canford Cliffs Chine Beach.

The Seaside Awards link will open in new window, organised by ENCAMS (the group behind the Keep Britain Tidy campaign), have very strict criteria for bathing water, beach safety and supervision, good beach management and clear information for the public.

Councillor Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “It’s fantastic news that Poole’s world class beaches have once again been recognised and that for the first time Hamworthy Park has achieved award status too.  Cleaning the beaches is extremely important, but only part of the picture. We also have to make sure that the beaches are well managed with clear and helpful information for visitors as well as providing a good range of facilities.”

Matti Raudsepp, Open Spaces Manager, Leisure Services, said: “The beach replenishment that took place at the end of 2005 means that Poole’s beaches are looking better than ever. Lovely white sand covers the 3.8miles of beaches around the Bay. With a wider beach and improved parking facilities at Branksome Chine, Poole is set for another busy summer season.”
