Citizenship Education at Poole School

The Borough of Poole's Pupil, Parent and Youth services and Parkstone Grammar School link will open in new windowwill be piloting a special democracy event on 9 June 2005 to promote and further the Citizenship education in students at the school.

With the involvement and guidance of Councillors, Council officers and school staff, young people will be participating in an activity aimed at raising their political awareness. This will involve students 'creating their own country' and then applying a political system to it. After that they will find out about political systems in other countries set up by their peers and report back to their own 'citizens' about it.

Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "This is a fun and informative way to get young people thinking about democracy and citizenship. It is hoped that students will understand about the nature of various political systems, make comparisons with their own and wish to participate in politics later on in their school and working lives."
