Civic Service Parade and D-Day Commemoration

Mayor of Poole Les Burden will be joined by civic dignitaries, councillors, members of the Armed Forces and D-Day veterans for the Civic Service and Parade on May 30 2004. Members of the public are also invited to attend.

The annual service will take place in St James' Church in Poole Old Town at 11am and will this year also commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The church service will be conducted by the Mayor's Chaplain, Rev Robert H G Mason. Members of the civic party will be dressed in full regalia and councillors will also don their formal robes for the occasion.

Following the service guests will return to the Quay to the covered bandstand where the D-Day tile mural that once hung on the Poole Pottery factory will be rededicated. The parade then carries on along the Quay to the US Coastguard's Memorial where a commemorative Poole Pottery plate will then be presented to the US Coastguard representative.

Running Order:

10.15am Civic Procession muster in Market Close

10.30am Across New Orchard to Guildhall, Market Street, Church Street and Thames Street to the church

11am Service at St James Church

12noon Parade leaves church. Led by Band (Poole Sea Cadets), 27 Marines and Adjutant, D-Day participants.

Parade to return via Thames Street, then left along Quay to covered area (Bandstand) outside Jolly Sailor/Nelson. Parade gather while the 50th D-Day tile mural is rededicated. Parade then carries on along quay to the US Coastguard's memorial. A commemorative Poole Pottery plate will then be presented to the US Coastguard representative. Parade is then dismissed.

Invited guests only will then proceed to the Quay Thistle for a finger buffet (buffet available from 12.30pm - 2pm) and Mayor's VIP guests will have dinner in the restaurant upstairs (booked for 1.15pm)
