Anyone interested in supporting local sports and health clubs as a volunteer can find out how their skills can be put to good use by visiting the Sport & Health Volunteering Fair at the Bournemouth University Sports Hall from 6-9pm on Monday 24 April. The fair has been organised by the Borough of Poole, Poole Volunteer Centre, NACRO and Active Dorset and is sponsored by Barclays. Local clubs are seeking people with a wide range of skills, not just sporting ones. Roles such as publicity and book-keeping are as vital to the success of sports clubs as coaching and leading walks. Volunteering provides an opportunity to put something back into the community and share skills with others. On an individual level, volunteering can help to boost confidence and raise self esteem as well as increasing physical activity levels. A number of organisations, including rugby, sailing and football clubs, will have stands at the fair with information about how people can get involved. In addition, AFC Bournemouth will be offering coaching sessions to visitors. Entry to the fair is free. More information is available from Virginia Bailey on 01202 261301 or Monique Munroe on 01202 675100. Virginia Bailey, Recreation Development Officer, Leisure Services, said: "Without volunteers many sports clubs and activities would not survive and local communities, young and old, would suffer. Not only does volunteering put something back into the community, but it is a great way to make new friends and have fun." Councillor Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "Volunteering underpins many of the Borough of Poole’s core values and we want to attract as many new people and interested volunteers into sport as possible. I would encourage people to come along to the Volunteering Fair to find out how they can help".
