Work to replace a Turlin Moor footbridge has now been completed. The former 1970’s designed bridge was closed in August 2003 when it became unsafe to use as a result of extensive vandalism. Geoffrey Osborne Limited won the contract with the Borough of Poole, for £137,000, to replace the footbridge and the works started in February. The old footbridge was removed and the new 16 tonne steel footbridge installed in the early hours of Sunday 21 March by a 300ft crane. John Rice, Engineering Manager, Transportation Services, Borough of Poole said; "Restricted access, a short time frame and negotiations with Network Rail Insurances made this a challenging project. But close liaison and the full co-operation of all parties involved in the project meant that the extremely complex work went smoothly and disruption to the local residents and adjacent holiday park was kept to a minimum." Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Local Economy, said: "This is fabulous news for the residents. The bridge is an invaluable link between the two communities. We are incredibly pleased with the outcome of the work which is a credit to all teams involved." The footbridge was opened on Friday, linking the two communities of Turlin Moor and Rockley Park together once again.
