MP Visits Poole's Decent Homes

Shadow Local Government Minister and Poole MP Robert Syms, has paid a visit to local residents who have benefited from the Government's £35.4m investment into Poole's council homes.

 

It is the responsibility of Poole Housing Partnership link will open in new window(PHP) to ensure that over 5,000 homes receive the investment and are brought up the Decent Homes Standard link will open in new windowby 2010.  Since works began in April last year, over 400 new bathrooms have been installed, as well as hundreds of kitchens, central heating systems, doors and electrical improvements.

 

Robert Syms MP visited several homes across the Borough to see examples of the various works that are underway.  He called in on Oakdale resident, Mrs Roberts, who has received a new bathroom that features a special level access shower. 

 

A delighted Mrs Roberts said: "The new bathroom has made such a difference.  Now I can just walk straight into the shower, without struggling over a bath or ledge.  The workers from MITIE have done such good a job."

 

Mr Syms went on to see a kitchen refurbishment in Canford Heath, and a central heating installation.  He said: "It's great to see first hand the results of the investment and the excellent work that PHP are doing here in Poole.  Residents seem pleased with the choice and quality they receive.  I think it's wonderful that residents are able to be so involved in the design and choice for their home."
