Poole's Website is Top of the Bop!

Poole Council’s website is surfing a wave of success into 2006 after boroughofpoole.com was rated as the top unitary authority site in the country by the Society of IT Managers (SOCITM) .

In an annual survey boroughofpoole.com was recognised to be among ‘Six of the Best’ sites in the public sector, ranking it alongside other organisations with far greater resources.

Criteria for selection of the six was that the websites must have been rated by SOCITM in their annual survey at the highest level for at least the last two years and that they must reflect the different types of authority. Only two unitary authorities in England were eligible and boroughofpoole.com was chosen.

Toby McConnell, e-Communications Manager, Communications, Borough of Poole, said: “This is fantastic news and shows the great advances we have made with boroughofpoole.com in recent years compared with other unitary authorities. It shows that we understand the homepage is the most important page on the site, where all common tasks are made easy and that we have a functional site where all content is in plain English. It firmly demonstrates we have been able to keep the user at the forefront of everything we do with the site.”

Cllr Neil Sorton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Resources, Borough of Poole, said: “Public expectations are rising all the time and SOCITM are constantly raising the bar when accessing public sector websites in order to transform the customer experience of Local Government and the requirements of the efficiency agenda. I am delighted boroughofpoole.com continues to be at the cutting edge of local authority websites.”

As a result of being included in this survey, other authorities will look to boroughofpoole.com as a good practice example for guidance to help raise the standard of enabling electronic council services across the country.
