Gala Night In Aid Of Rossmore Community College

The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel link will open in new window is hosting a fundraising event on 16 February in support of a project to refurbish drama facilities at Rossmore Community College link will open in new window.

The event aims to raise awareness of the ICARUS project and local businesses have been invited to show their support by reserving a table.

ICARUS is a partnership between Rossmore Community College, Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and building company, Rok link will open in new window, to create a state-of-the-art performance facility, including new sound and lighting equipment, theatre seating and a full stage.

Sally Apps, Headteacher of Rossmore Community College said: “We have recently had students selected for the National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Choir which is a tremendous achievement for Rossmore Community College.  Having students with so much potential and talent in performing and creative arts we are delighted to have this support to improve the facilities in our drama studio. The Gala night will raise awareness of the wonderful partnership work Rossmore Community College, The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and Rok are doing whilst at the same time raising money for the project.”

Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “The ICARUS project is exactly the sort of collaborative working between schools and local businesses that the Borough of Poole is keen to support and shows how successful partnership work can result in great things. The new drama facilities will be a great asset to the college and will benefit the students and the local community.”

Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel is leading the £25,000 fundraising drive through various activities, including inviting hotel guests to make a £1 donation to the project.

Sergio Snyder, Cluster Director of Human Resources for Marriott, said: “The response of our staff and customers has been fantastic and this project is at the core of Mr Marriott’s philosophy and value of community spirit.”

Rok’s Poole office and its local suppliers have pledged around £4,000 in free labour and materials to transform the studio.

Carl McCrudden, Rok’s Poole area leader, said: “Our role in the community is very important to us and this project is a great example of how we and our suppliers can make a real difference.”
