30 Mar 06Free Activity Day at Alderney
A Fun Day is being held at the Alderney Recreation Ground on Wednesday 5th April from 11am to 4pm.
The day will offer young people in the Alderney area the opportunity to try a new activity and learn about their environment and their local community. A number of activities will be available on the day, including:
· sports activities (sports coaches, climbing wall)
· arts activities (circus skills, face painter, environmental sculpture)
· heathland activities (run by the Urban Heaths Partnership)
· bouncy castle and ball pit
· visit from the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (with their fire engine!)
Councillor Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “This is an excellent demonstration of how the council can work across departments, and with partner organisations, to deliver valuable initiatives to local communities. We hope that the event will help to give young people a respect for open spaces and contribute to building relationships in the local community.”
Clive Smith, Head of Leisure Services said; “This promises to be a fun-filled day for everyone. It is being targeted at young people living in the Alderney area, but everyone is very welcome to attend. It is a great example of an effective partnership between staff from a range of services within the Council and with partner organisations such as the Bourne Stream Partnership and the Urban Heaths Partnership.“
The day has been organised by staff from Leisure Services, working with Youth Services, Housing & Community Services and Culture &Community Services. Representatives from local community projects will also be there on the day, including the Bourne Valley Youth Centre, the Bourne Stream Partnership and a new community resource centre being set up on the Bourne Estate.
