Mayor of Poole parades through the Town

On a warm Sunday morning the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, with her Consort David Butt, her family, Councillors and Officers from the Borough of Poole and invited guests from within and outside the Borough, assembled at the Guildhall for this year's Civic Service and Parade. Preceded by the Ringwood Pipers and the Salvation Army Band, they processed to St James Church for the service, exchanging greetings along the way with residents who turned out to watch.

The service was led by Rev Mason, Pastor of St James. The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, and the Sheriff read the lessons during the service. The Giving Prayers were read beautifully by the Mayor's daughter, Miss Georgina Butt, and husband and Consort, David Butt. An uplifting and inspiring sermon was given by the Mayor's Chaplain, Father Mark of St Mary's Catholic Church. The Mayor personally chose all the readings, bidding prayers and hymns.

Afterwards the Civic party, Councillors and guests paraded along the Quay on the way back to the Guildhall, much to the bemusement of tourists enjoying the sunshine and attractions of Poole Quay who had no idea why a procession of people wearing odd-looking costumes were walking along the street. But residents and tourists alike thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle. The parade was followed by a reception at the Civic Centre.

Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I was gratified by the number of Councillors and guests who turned out, and I was moved by the lovely service. I have since received many letters of thanks from guests who had attended the service for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it."
