Poole Saddles Up for Bike Week Challenge

The Borough of Poole have challenged Bournemouth Borough Council link will open in new windowto see who can achieve the highest number of employees and Councillors cycling to work during Bike Week link will open in new windowfrom Monday 13 until Friday 17 June.

The prize up for grabs is a glass trophy which will go to the council with the most points at the end of the week.

Points will be awarded for each cyclist with Councillors scoring 50 points for each day, Policy Directors, Chief Executive and Service Unit Heads 25 points and officers 10. Riders working for Poole will get a free bikers’ breakfast on the Monday at the Civic Club, Hatchpond and Creekmoor sites.

Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Local Economy including Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "This is a great opportunity for Council staff to leave their cars at home and help the environment. I hope that Bike Week will encourage people to cycle to work more regularly."

The aim of the challenge is to raise awareness of sustainable travel, reduce pollution and Co2 emissions and congestion, while encouraging active travel to promote health. Further information on Bike Week can be found at www.bikeweek.org.uk link will open in new window.
