25 Feb 04Changes in Poole Council's Management Team
The Council’s Management Team, is to be downsized as part of an overall cost-saving review of services following under-funding from the Government. Under the current structure there are six Policy Directors and a Chief Executive, all members of the Senior Management Team. However, at different stages throughout the year, two Policy Directors will be leaving the Council. The review of the Management team was triggered by two events which will no longer require Policy Director support. The first is the imminent creation of Poole’s new ALMO (Arms Length Management Organisation) to manage and improve Poole’s housing stock. From April 2004 Poole’s Housing Services teams will transfer to the new organisation The second was the need to review part of Social Services’ work - the way the Council provides Children’s Services in the light of the Government’s Green Paper ‘Every Child Matters’, written following the death of Victoria Climbie. The paper suggests the formation of trusts for children’s services combining education and children’s social services. Alan Barlow has played a leading role in the Council housing function for a number of years. He joined Poole in 1989 as Deputy Borough Engineer and became a Policy Director for Poole Borough Council in 1992 being re-appointed under the new Unitary Authority in 1997. Alan will be taking voluntary redundancy. Fred Davies joined the new Unitary Council, Borough of Poole, from Gloucestershire in 1996 and was Poole’s first designated Policy Director of Social Services. He has a short-term contract and has agreed to stay with us until Christmas 2004. John McBride, Chief Executive, Borough of Poole, said: "We shall greatly miss the considerable experience, commitment and personalities of both Alan and Fred in the Management Team and wish them every success in the future."
