10 Jun 05Cycle Racing in the Park
For the first time in many years the track around the cricket pitch in Poole Park will be used for cycle racing again. To celebrate Bike Week Spectators will be welcome to watch the event from behind the safety barriers that are being specially erected for the event. The races are being organised by the Borough of Poole and Poole Wheelers, the mainly cycle racing based local club. Cllr Ron Parker, Portfolio Holder for Local Economy including Transportation, said "We are hoping that the cycle races will be a great success and provide healthy outdoor exercise for the children that take part." Sally Funnell, the Cycling/Walking Officer, Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: "It will be good to see the track being used for its intended purpose and maybe we will discover some future cycling champions."
, all children in years six and seven in Poole schools have been invited to come along, on any type of bike, and have a go at cycle racing. A series of races will take place during the morning and the champions of the day will be presented with a plaque to commemorate the event.
