21 Nov 06Recycling Success with Garden Waste Collection Scheme
The successful first phase of the Garden Waste Collection Service, from the Borough of Poole will cease for the winter on 30 November 2006, with the service due to recommence on 2 April 2007.
In addition to the collection service, funding has been approved to introduce a further 12,000 green bins to selected properties across the Borough in line with the second phase of the scheme.
Cllr Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We are committed to reducing biodegradable waste sent to landfill and improving our recycling performance. The scheme has already enjoyed tremendous support from residents in this first phase and made an important contribution to Poole’s recycling performance now averaging an impressive 35%.”
The success is mirrored with the Garden Waste Collection Points established in Rossmore Leisure Centre, Herbert Avenue, Alderney and St Barnabas Church, King John Avenue, Bearwood earlier this year. Due to their success, the Council has secured approval to continue this service and introduce a further 3 sites across the Borough to assist residents with the disposal of garden waste over the Winter period.
The locations for the new Garden Waste Collection points are:
· Lake Pier Car Park – Hamworthy
· Baiter North Car Park – Poole Town
· Beach Road Car Park – Canford Cliffs
The facilities can accept grass cuttings, hedge and shrub clippings, plants, weeds, leaves twigs, bark, cut flowers and pot plant compost.
This service is only available to residents of Poole. Waste from people living outside the borough or commercial waste will not be accepted.
