Poole Awards for NCMA 'Children Come First' Childminding Network

Excellence in Childcare was celebrated at a special award ceremony yesterday, hosted by Poole's Mayor Councillor Ray Smith.

Under the 'Children Come First' scheme, 3 groups of registered childminders in Poole who work to high standards were presented with a commemorative certificate in recognition of the quality assurance award from the National Childminding Association (NCMA).

There are currently over 180 registered childminders in Poole, and of these, nearly 50 are now members of the Borough of Poole 'Children Come First' network cluster and have achieved Quality Assured Status

To become members childminders are assessed and regularly monitored, usually every 8 - 10 weeks, by a Borough of Poole Network Co-ordinator. The networks give childminders support and training, a monthly toy library and play session and frequent children's events and activities.

Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Education, Borough of Poole, said: "These childminders work to extremely high standards and these awards recognise and celebrate the high levels of commitment and professionalism demonstrated by each childminder and the excellent service they provide to families in Poole."

This is the third network in Poole that has received an award from the quality assurance body the National Childminding Association. The first network was accredited in 2001, the second in May 2003 and the third in December last year.

Councillor Ray Smith, Mayor of Poole, said: "Parents living and working in Poole value the excellent care and learning opportunities provided by the childminding network and really value that reassurance and peace of mind which comes from knowing their children are being well cared for in their absence. It is also important that these carers who work very hard, be recognised for all their dedicated to these children and their families."

Jan Creedy and Kristina Owen also received certificates from the Mayor, for undertaking the process of accreditation via the NCMA Quality First Scheme.
