The Borough of Poole's Culture & Community Learning team is one of only 40 library authorities in the country to be awarded funding from the Museums, Libraries and Archive Council (MLA) and the University for Industry (UfI) for a new ICT project.
The £18,000 grant will enable the service to buy new laptop computers and interactive learning equipment for the IT Learning Suite in Poole Central Library. Working with Poole Adult Learning, the library will be able to offer a wider range of basic computer taster sessions and access to online learning for library users.
Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture, Borough of Poole, said: “This is excellent news for the library service, which has beaten off stiff competition to win this award. The library is a popular venue for learners and the new facilities will allow more people to develop their ICT skills in a state-of-the-art learning centre.”
The new centre will be ready early in 2006. Anyone interested in the Library’s range of computer courses should contact Poole Central Library on 01202 262424.
