What Do Young People Think of Libraries

The Borough of Poole is conducting surveys to find out what young people think about their local library service.

The opinion poll which will form part of a National Children's Survey will ask parents and children their views on libraries and the services they think libraries should provide for young people in Poole.

Marguerite Dike, Child Services Librarian, Culture and Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "The survey will provide us with important information on what parents and young people think of our libraries. The results will help us to identify those services and facilities which today's young people need.

The survey will be conducted in libraries between 28 February and 5 March. Results of the poll will contribute to similar surveys around the country and help to identify any regional trends and differences.

Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, said: "Today's libraries are more than about books. They provide a supportive environment to inform, educate and increase the capabilities of children and young adults. As well as encouraging the enjoyment of reading, our libraries provide the gateway to global information using the latest computer technology."
